After the 10th of the month, when 1 whole meter has been filled in on the centimeter tape, the focus shifts to mixed decimals.

By October 13th, the colored part of the tape will have grown to 1 whole meter and 3 more decimeters, to be recorded as 1.3 m, and read “1 and 3 tenths” meters. The 11th through the 20th of the month will give students an opportunity to see ten more decimeters accumulate, 10 centimeters per day, reinforcing the relationship between centimeters, decimeters, and meters.
