On October 12th, you’ll want to talk about the change from a.m. to p.m. that takes place the first instant after noon. Since lunch and/or lunch recess often occur around noon, third graders seem to easily remember when noon is and that the times change to p.m. at that time.

You may want to discuss military time, where in order to prevent any misunderstandings, 13:00 is used for 1:00 p.m., 14:00 is used for 2:00 p.m., and 15:00 is used for 3:00 p.m., etc.
