Grade 3: EDC Computations & Connections – Beginning of October

Instructor Notes:

For materials preparations, click ‘Back to Main Menu’ button and select ‘Getting Started – EDC Setup’.

Read Every Day Counts Teacher’s Guide, Kanter and Gillespie, Great Source, 2005 or 2012 edition, p. 34.

From October 1st through the 10th, as you add one dot per day to the top ten grid so the number of dots equals the Calendar date, you will want to help students focus on the filled in and the empty spaces each day to review combinations for ten.

For example, on October 8th, we can see that 8 and 2 more are needed to make 10. Writing a full fact family for the day’s combination for ten will help students make use of the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction to connect subtraction facts they may not know to known addition facts.
