Collecting a fall weather sample in October gives students the chance to collect, organize, and compare data. The graph can be extended by attaching an additional grid whenever more spaces are needed. When we ask open-ended questions like ” What do you notice about our October fall weather so far?” we can encourage children to describe the data and to share their generalizations.

Many classes choose another city and graph its weather in October, also. This provides for some fun discussions about why the resulting data may be similar or different.
