Read Every Day Counts Teacher’s Guide, Kanter and Gillespie, Great Source, 2005 or 2012 edition, p. 25-26.

With the dime’s debut on Day 10, Days 11 to 19 are good days to revisit the markings on the heads side and tails side of the dime. Some teachers flip the demo coins each day. This allows children to see and describe both sides.

As with the Counting Tape, Days 11 to 19 also provide a chance to focus on reading, writing, and interpreting the teen numbers as groups of ten and leftovers. For example, we can interpret 17¢, as “1 dime (or 10 cents) and 7 extra cents.”
