By midmonth, we can invite the class to say the orange, orange, green pattern or the circle, circle, rectangle pattern as a helper points to each piece and then try to “keep it going” beyond the day’s date. This helps children see the fun of how patterns help us to predict what may come next.

To engage children in using the pattern to do some problem solving, we can ask questions such as, “What color and shape will appear tomorrow?” or “What will the piece appearing one week from today look like?” followed by “How did you figure this out?”
