By early October children will begin seeing number patterns on the Hundred Chart. On the 23rd we can help them see that two full rows of ten and three extra spaces are filled in to make 23. They can also see it will take two more to get to 25 and seven in all to get to 30. (Note the addition of the thick vertical line down the middle of the chart to help children count the spaces in each row.) Finally, we can use the Chart to see the pattern for adding and taking away 10 from the day’s number.
