Grade 1: EDC Calendar – Beginning of October

Invite children with October birthdays to place their markers on the calendar, counting from the 1st up to each of their birthdays. We can frequently ask, “How many days ’til our next birthday?” or “On what day will our next birthday arrive?” and later in the month, “What do you think the calendar piece will look like?”

Mondays and Fridays are good days to focus discussion on the calendar. Each Friday children have another row of the pattern to consider. By the second Monday, the class can predict what the day’s piece will look like and then put up the Saturday to Monday pieces to check.
