This month the Clock is reset to 11:00 a.m. and then moves ahead one minute each day of the month, reaching half past 11 on the last day of the month, November 30th. This gives students practice reading the minute hand and telling time past the hour. You might try an activity children enjoyed from second grade called “Catch the Clock”.
Once a week or so, invite the class to try to catch the classroom clock during the day whenever its minute hand matches where the minute hand is pointing on the EDC clock that day. For example, on November 14th, students can raise their hands to point out and then read together the times on the classroom clock at 9:14 a.m., 10:14 a.m., 11:14 a.m., 12:14 p.m., 1:14p.m., and 2:14 p.m. This frequent practice within a single day, now and then, especially helps the students who are not yet confident using analog clocks.
