Toward the end of the month, after children have become familiar with combinations for five, Number Builder takes on a new look for the class to play Make the Sum. Six pairs of dot cards that add up to five are randomly placed to form 3 rows of 4 cards. Children take turns suggesting two cards that add up to five. Pairs that make the sum of five are removed and displayed side by side.

Addition number sentences (not in photo) can be introduced to record each combination.
