Instructor Notes:

For materials preparations, click ‘Back to Main Menu’ button and select ‘Getting Started – EDC Setup’.

Read Every Day Counts Teacher’s Guide, Kanter and Gillespie, Great Source, 2005 or 2012 edition, p. 56.

Children can continue to practice counting the dots in the Ten Grids by 10’s, 5’s, and 1’s to confirm the total.

By now everyone should be able to both read the number and tell the meaning of the number. For example, “Today we have forty-five. That’s four groups of ten and five extra ones.”

When looking at the dots in the Ten Grid on the “ones side” of the mat, we will continue to ask, “How many more to get our next ten?” “If we add 1 more (or 2 more) how many will we have in all?” “What number is 1 less (or 2 less) than today’s number?” “What number is 10 more (or 10 less) than today’s number?”
