By midmonth, the Number Builder mat is switched once again to become the background for the memory game, Make a Match. As each pair that makes a sum of 8 is found, it can be added to the display of combinations for 8, ending play until the next day.

If in prior months we have been modeling the language of first to last, and top, middle, and bottom row to describe the position of cards as they are revealed, we can now ask children to describe the location of each card they want to see turned over, instead of just pointing. For example, “I want the card in the top row under the third clip and the card in the bottom row under the second clip.”
