Before vacation break you may want to ask the class to tell you what they have noticed on the Calendar so far. It is rewarding when children use terms they have heard for three weeks like box, cylinder, and cone, or when they point out that the ribbons help predict the color of the next package or hat.

This month’s abcd pattern provides an opportunity to develop the language of before, after, and between when describing the position of any package or hat in relation to the others. For example, the yellow cone hats always come after the red cylinders and before the green boxes. They are always between a cylinder and a box.
